Diet (POST 31)

Diet: At the moment I’m following Pat’s idea of a dieting which is eating when hungry and eating clean. Before Pat was a pro bodybuilder he was a pro chef. He doesn’t count calories, he eats fresh meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. Unlike most bodybuilders he doesn’t force food down he listens to his body and eats when he needs to. One guy who competes at British level at my gym eats every two hours, his body doesn’t need that much food and he possibly can’t be hungry but he feels he needs it for maximum growth but when relaxed, his gut is distended to the extent that he looks pregnant.
Pat is a non-believer in all diets (low fat, low carbs etc ) he just believes in eating a good healthy balanced diet and keeping away from all processed foods.
This may work for him because he was involved in athletics before bodybuilding so he was always fit and lean. I however have had 25 years out of training and over indulging so my brown fat cells maybe very hard to shift and I may well need to take more dramatic measures to slim down.
Pat says the high intensity training that we are doing will speed my metabolism and I will lose the weight naturally, the pressure he puts me under in the gym may well do the job and only time will tell. I am having my body fat measured again in mid April so if I am on target I will stick to what I’m currently doing however if the progress is slow I will have to alter my diet.
I like the sound of the Anabolic/Catabolic diet which is higher protein and fat with low carbs. The theory behind this is that you use fat instead of glycogen as the body’s primary source of fuel. When you use all your fat (key-tones) the body then takes the fat direct from your body, job done.
This seems more sound than working overtime to use up all of your glycogen hoping your body will then Take fat as an alterative fuel source. ( it can use muscle and you could lose size if your unlucky)
Google this diet, it is quit complicated and there are over 100 A4 pages to read but it is worth the time.
